Return of the Champ!

.:: Fender®.com ::.

Fender has announced they are reintroducing the ‘57 Champ. The acclaimed “practice amp” used by Eric Clapton, Joe Walsh and others on some very famous tunes has returned. Hooray Fender!. According to Fender:

Today’s ’57 Champ is a faithful recreation of its popular ancestor, hand-wired and with touch-sensitive response for rich tone.

What is it they say…”What goes around comes around” or something like that.  All I have to say is – when? and how much?

If you build it they will come! – I hope…

When one has a passion for something it is hard NOT to share it…

I started playing guitar back when I was in high school – unfortunately hard times conspired against me and I decided I had to sell all my gear and give it up. I look back now on the verge of 40 years old and wonder why I made that choice. I regret giving up my Fender Deluxe Reverb, at the time I thought it was too big and “old” to be worth much. Boy was I wrong.

Anyway, having recently revived my love of guitar (and marrying it with my love of gadgets and all things electric) I started mymojo.us… I wanted to, or more accurately “needed” to, share everything I have discovered with others. That is what this site is about – sharing my love of guitars and gear with others. I do the best I can to seek out classic, new, innovative, and just cool stuff and share it. Nothing pretentious, just put it out there.

BTW – If you have a love of guitars and gear – and want to share it – let me know…I would openly welcome folks who honestly want to SHARE information.

Which brings me to the original reason for my post. I viewed my stats today from Google Analytics and here’s what it tells me:
Not extraordinary numbers, but given I started this just a few weeks back I view it as progress…and to quote someone “great journeys start with the first step”.

I hope you find something useful when you visit and be sure to let me know what you think (good or bad).

Regards,
John

An Introduction to Amp Modding

The following guest article is by Joe Gillespie. Joe runs a great blog over at www.joesjamblog.com about all things Spider Jam (as in Line6). Joe has been building and modding amps for quite a while (check out his ‘Little Tweedie‘)

There’s a line in the Dire Straits song “Sultans of Swing” about “Guitar George” that goes “Yes, and an old guitar is all he can afford.” That has always amused me because it really should have been, “A new guitar is all he can afford.” There is something about old guitars and amplifiers that makes them so desirable – and expensive. It can’t all be nostalgia. Is a late ’50s Les Paul or Stratocaster really better than their modern counterparts? Considering all the advances in technology, can an old Vox or Fender amp honestly sound better?
